We have been joined by Maura Williamson for the last few Monday mornings. Maura has been completing Drama workshops with each class. We have really enjoyed learning lots of new techniques, playing games and growing in confidence. Thank you Maura, we are looking forward to the rest of your sessions!
On Monday, we were delighted to welcome St Mogue’s N.S. to our school for the first time. It was great to see everyone we met a few weeks ago, and we were able to spend more time getting to know each other during the day.
We had a very busy day of activities – each group had the opportunity to take part in a Karate lesson, a Drama session, an art activity and some games outside! Thank you to all the coaches who helped us on the day.
We finished off the day with some time to play together outside and a tub of delicious local ice cream. Everyone had a wonderful day, and we are looking forward to our next meeting already!
The Middle Room have been learning how to play badminton over the last few weeks. Ms. Graham attended a Shuttle Time training course organised by Cavan Sports Partnership in January and recieved a bag of racquets, shuttles and a net for the school. The children have been learning the basic of the sport since then.
3rd and 4th Class got the opportunity to put their skills to the test at a Badminton Blitz in Cavan Leisure Centre on Wednesday. There were a number of other schools also taking part, and the children enjoyed playing a wide range of games organised by coaches from Badminton Ireland. The children showed off their badminton skills, as well as great team work and co-operation. Thank you to Cavan Sports Partnership and Badminton Ireland for the opportunity to learn a new sport – we have lots of boys and girls interested in joining the local club!
John Cosgrove from Killeshandra Leaguers visited us in school this morning. John came to give the Junior Classroom a taste of what it is like to train with the club. Thank you John for coming in to coach us – there might be some future footballers in our class!
Today was the third week of our block of Drama with Maura Williamson. We have learned so much already, and are really enjoying our lessons each week. Thank you Maura!
We had a visit today from Lucy Forde who a Heritage in Schools specialist. Lucy taught us about the history of milling in Ireland. We also got some hands-on experience using ancient tools to make flour and helped to bake brown bread. We really enjoyed getting involved in making our own bread and tasting the end result!
Thank you very much Lucy for a most interesting day!
Today was the first week of our ‘Fit for February’ running challenge. The Active School Committee set us a target of running or walking 150 laps of the GAA pitch in 15 minutes – we smashed it! As a school, we managed to complete 202 laps today – well done everyone, there was some fantastic running in the sunshine! We might need to increase our target as we get fitter during the month!
Ann Gerety Smyth, who works with the Heritage in Schools Programme, visited us today to do a creative workshop. She showed us the process of wet felting and we each got to make our own piece. We really enjoyed teasing the wool to lay out our pattern, then wetting and rolling it to reveal our final pieces. Thank you Ann, it was a most enjoyable experience and we loved getting the chance to learn a new skill!
