As we continue our ASPIRE PeacePlus partnership with St Mogue’s N.S. this year, the focus is on music and drama. Yesterday, we joined together for our Peace Proms workshop in Dublin, and today we were delighted to be invited to watch the dress rehearsal of their School Variety Concert. We were treated to a wonderful morning of festive entertainment – from the nativity play Born in a Barn performed by the Junior Room to song, poetry, recitation, dance and drama of all kinds – well done everyone!
Peace Proms Rehearsal and Jump Zone
The Middle and Senior Rooms were in Dublin today for the Peace Proms rehearsal – we were in the National Indoor Arena for a workshop with the Peace Proms Choir conductor Greg Beardsell. We have a lot of work to do before the concert in February, but we are excited to focus on learning the songs and choreography before then!
After our rehearsal, we hopped back on the bus for the short trip to Jump Zone in Santry were we met up with St Mogue’s N.S. After getting kitted out in our socks and a short safety briefing, we had a fantastic hour and a half in Jump Zone!
To finish off our day, we met St Mogue’s in Supermac’s in Kells on the way home for some food!
It was a late return to Killeshandra, but we had a great day!
Junior Room Christmas fun!
The Junior Room were invited across to the FOCUS Centre this morning for a Christmas treat. They enjoyed playing lots of games and were delighted to receive a Christmas present before they returned to school. Thank you to everyone in the FOCUS Centre for making us so welcome!

The Junior Room also took part in a Christmas Maths Quiz on Zoom today. There was lots of mathematical thinking, working out and problem solving. It finished off with a snowman race which was lots of fun!
Killeshandra Christmas Market
Thank you to eveyone who supported us at the Killeshandra Christmas Market on Sunday. We had made tree decorations and painted Christmas jars in school to sell. Thank you also to the children in 4th, 5th and 6th Classes who volunteered to do a shift on the stall and who represented our school so well. We hope you all enjoy your lovely Christmas decorations!
Christmas Tree
6th Class have been waiting for today for a long time – it was finally their turn to put up our school Christmas tree! They did a great job – thank you, 6th Class!
Colin Creighton – talk on mobile phones
We were joined in school today by Colin Creighton – Colin came to speak to parents last week about mobile phones and online safety, and this morning he spent some time talking to the children in the Middle and Senior Rooms. Colin was a wonderful source of information – he explained how mobile phones are designed to be addictive, and talked with us about how we need to be protected from the risks phones can pose while also being prepared to use them safely and responsibly. Thank you so much Colin for a most informative session.
Killeshandra Christmas Lights
We were delighted to be asked to make decorations for the Killeshandra Christmas Tree. We walked through the town to hang our decorations on the tree on Friday, and are looking forward to seeing them when the tree is lit in the run up to Christmas!
Drumming
We have been working with the Ulster Scots Agency recently – last year we enjoyed Scottish Dancing and Piping tuition. This year, Alan Laird will be joining us for 10 weeks to teach us how to play the drums.
We had our first session yesterday, and are really looking forward to learning lots of drumming skills with Alan over the next few months. Thank you Alan, we can’t wait for next week!
Student Council Cake Sale
Our Student Council have been very busy over the last couple of weeks – they organised a Cake Sale in school today, which was a huge success. Along with Ms Gregg, the members of our Student Council have been busy planning, making posters, shopping and whipping up yummy buns and treats in school. They have also been very busy at home baking delicious cakes, cookies and traybakes! A special thank you to all the parents and those at home who helped to provide treats for sale.

After a busy morning getting all the goodies ready for sale, the Student Council opened their Cake Sale at break and lunch time in school today. There was a fantastic selection and everyone was able to buy lots of delicious treats – we enjoyed some of them in school, and hopefully some made it home as well!
Thanks again to our Student Council for all their hard work – it was a great day!
Visit from Garda Karen
We were joined in school today by Garda Karen English, from the Cavan Community Engagement Unit of An Garda Síochána. Garda Karen came to speak to us about our online behaviour – she gave us lots of advice about the legal implications of our online activity, as well as how to protect ourselves and stay safe online.
Garda Karen also took the time to answer some of our questions about her work as a member of An Garda Síochána – it was very interesting to hear a little bit about the work she does each day.
Thank you very much Garda Karen for taking the time to come and speak to us today, we all learned a lot about staying safe online.
