Science Week

To mark Science Week, we have been exploring floating and sinking, testing waterproof materials, making musical instruments and investigating colour mixing. The Senior Room also demonstrated a range of experiments for their class.

Sports Coaching

We have started 2 blocks of sports coaching since the mid-term break. Each Monday, Shaun from Elevate Coaching takes us for a multi-sport session – we have been improving our fitness and developing our skills in lots of different sports. Every Thursday, Michael from Cavan GAA teaches us lots of different fundamental movement and GAA skills. We are really enjoying both of these coaches and are looking forward to learning lots more over the coming weeks. Thank you, Shaun and Michael!

Team Hope Shoebox Appeal

Thank you very much to everyone who filled a shoebox as a Christmas gift for a child as part of the Team Hope Shoebox Appeal. The shoeboxes were collected today, and we look forward to hearing in the New Year which country they were sent to. We collected 35 shoeboxes, as well as some online donations – thank you for making a difference in the life of a child this Christmas!

Dress Up and Games Day

Today was Dress Up and Games Day – there were all sorts of strange characters in school! We enjoyed some Hallowe’en activities this week, as well as playing games this afternoon. Thank you to the Sstudent Council who organised today – they raised over €100 for their chosen charity of the Cavan Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Have a great mid-term break everyone!

Soccer coaching

We were delighted to have Brian Parker from the Faith Mission join us again for soccer coaching. Brian taught us lots of different soccer skills, and also shared a message from the Bible with us each week. Thank you so much Brian, we really enjoyed your time with us!

Maths Week

We have been busy celebrating Maths Week in school this week. On Monday, we got together in our groups to complete a Maths trail around the playground and play some games. We also spent lots of time playing Maths games in our classrooms this week.

Autumn Walk

The Junior Room went on a walk to explore our local area and look for signs of autumn. We recorded our findings on our checklists.

Before heading back to school we spent some time in the playground. It was a lovely morning!

Aistear

In September, the Junior Room explored the theme of Baby Clinic in Aistear. They designed and decorated a bib or vest for a baby, created a baby mobile and had the chance to try out different roles such as doctor, nurse, receptionist, Mammy, Daddy and childminder in the Role Play Corner.

It was a great start to the much loved Aistear activities in the Junior Room this year!

Harvest Assembly with Colin Tinsley

We were delighted to welcome Colin Tinsley from Hope for Youth Ministries back to school today for a special Harvest Assembly. Colin shared videos, songs and Bible stories as we learned about how God provides for us. There was even time for a quiz – Colin was very impressed with our tractor knowledge!

Thank you for visiting Colin, and special thanks for the lovely Harvest colouring book you gave each of us.

Killeshandra Youth Band

Killeshandra Youth Band held a reunion on Saturday to celebrate their achievements and time together through the years. As part of their celebrations, the committee presented ourselves and Scoil Bhríde with a most generous donation. This money will be used to enhance the teaching of music in our school. We are most grateful to Gerry and Anne Duffy and all the committee for their kindness and generosity to us. Thank again to all in the Killeshandra Youth Band.
