We had lots of special activities today to celebrate books and reading – we read Irish books, took part in webinars and quizes, wrote stories, shared our books with our class and spent some time reading and talking about our books with the whole school.
We finished our Fit for February challenge today and we hit our target! At the beginning of the month, we set a target of 700 laps. Today was our highest number of laps – we walked and ran 224 laps of the football pitch.
Over the 4 weeks, we managed to complete a total of 712 laps – great running everyone!
This evening, members of our school community attended a gathering in Cavan Town to show support for Special Needs Assistants (SNAs) following the recent announcement regarding proposed cuts to SNA provision. SNAs provide a vital role in supporting pupils with additional needs, helping them to access education, build independence and fully participate in school life. We stand in solidarity with SNAs and acknowledge the invaluable contribution they make to pupils, families and wider school communities.
Well done to 5th and 6th Class for producing amazing projects for the STEMtacular event which took place in Ballinamore, Co Leitrim today. They have been working so hard for the last few weeks and were excited to show off their work today.
Each group had to meet three sets of judges and they were very impressed with the standard of work they saw from our pupils.
Some pupils volunteered to be interview by TG4 and received beautiful hats for taking part.
All pupils then got a chance to check out the fantastic Discovery Centre where they got the opportunity to take part in a whole range of STEM activities.
We had the chance to sit back and and enjoy a magic show before the awards ceremony.
To top off a wonderful day, we were thrilled to receive an award from Leitrim County Council. Huge congratulations to the boys – we are so pround of you and everyone else for working so hard and showcasing their projects so well today.
We had a visit from two of the coaches at Killeshandra G.F.C. this afternoon. They took each class for a training session – we had great fun and learned lots of new skills. Killeshandra Leaguers invited us all to join them at their Juvenile training on Saturday mornings – thank you very much for your visit!
We have started our Fit for February challenge – we set ourselves a target of running 700 laps of the football pitch as a school during the 4 weeks in February. We managed 153 laps on our first week – will we make it to 700 laps after 4 weeks?
The Junior Room have been exploring the theme of habitats in Aistear for the month of January. We made polar habitats with shoeboxes and we talked about the different animals that live in polar habitats. In small world, we created different habitats for lots of different animals and wrote some signs too! In the last group, we painted a sunset picture and placed some silhouettes of animals on it.Â
On the last week of the month, we created homes for animals using the polydrons and lego. We also got our safety goggles out to try to rescue the animals out of the huge pieces of ice!Â
We can’t wait to explore our new theme of Space this month!
Yesterday morning, the Middle and Senior Rooms headed to Dublin for our Peace Proms concert. It was an early start, but the day we had been waiting for had finally arrived!
When we reached the RDS, we had a rehearsal with the full orchestra for the first time then excitement levels were building as we ate our lunch and watched the audience arrive.
Then it was time for the show! All the hard work learning the songs and choreography in school over the last couple of months meant we could sing, dance and enjoy the amazing atmosphere in the RDS. There were amazing performances from dancers and musicians (and the audience joined in too!), but the Peace Proms choir were the stars of the show!
The Junior Room went to Ballinamore with St Mogue’s N.S. as part of our PeacePlus programme. We visited Ballinamore Library where Gráinne read several books to us, all of which had reference to the library or books. We then had a snack together and some time to talk to our friends.
We walked up to the Leitrim School of Art where we had a lovely clay session with Denise. We decorated masks and got to paint them. We really enjoyed this and can’t wait for Denise to deliver these to us once they have been baked in the oven!
We also got some time to run around and play with our friends outside. It was a really great day!
