Last Friday, our Creative Schools associate Ultan came to school to record the folklore we had collected. We were also joined by a grandparent, who we interviewed about farming in the past, and Leila Beattie who told us about school both when she was a child and a teacher.
We will be working with Ultan over the next few weeks to prepare for a special event as part of Cruinniú na nÓg on Saturday 15th June. Everyone is very welcome to join us in the Martin Memorial Hall from 3-4 pm for our Folklore Exhibition, Hidden Gems. On Wednesday this week, the Parents’ Association organised a Break the Rules Day. We could choose which rules to break and pay €1 per rule – lots of us decided to break them all! We had a great day sitting beside a friend, having an unhealthy snack, not wearing our uniform, having a night off homework and getting double playtime!
We presented our awards for Excellent Effort, Reader and Handwriter of the Month for April at assembly recently – well done everyone!
Some of the children in the Senior Classroom were involved in preparing artwork to be displayed in Killeshandra as part of the Fleadh in the town next weekend. They worked with local artist Rosie Cole to create images of traditional Irish musical instruments. They look amazing – we will keep an eye out for them around Killeshandra over the next few days!
Today we had the first matches in our Killeshandra Soccer Blitz. The Active School Committee worked together to organise teams and each team will play 4 matches over the next week. Today’s matches were very close – The ACKs beat LiverMan by 1 goal, and it was a scoreless draw between Goals FC and the Hit the Differs. The 5 Amigos are looking forward to getting started with their first match on Monday. There was great support from the sidelines too!
