Brendan Allard from Leave No Trace Ireland joined us in school today for the first of two workshops. The Middle and Senior Rooms enjoyed lots of practical activities – we made an outline map of Ireland and thought about our favourite places, we learned how long it takes for rubbish to break down (did you know a crisp packet takes 80 years to decompose?) and we played a guessing game with plants and animals found in Ireland.
Brendan also taught us the rules of Leave No Trace, and how we can be considerate to others as we enjoy our local outdoor areas.
Finally, we thought about one of our favourite places in our local area, Killykeen Forest Park. Brendan left us with a project to complete before his next visit – we have to become tour guides and make a poster to promote Killykeen. We are looking forward getting started, and to Brendan’s next visit!
