Performance Day
Sports Week
This week was Sports Week – we were busy taking part in races, challenges and games every day. Each classroom bubble took part in lots of different races – running, sack, potato and spoon, 3-legged, beanbag and wheelbarrow races to name a few! We also enjoyed orienteering activities, water relays, team challenges, tug-of-war and games each day. The weather was great, we had a lot of fun and we worked hard to earn our Sports Day medals – well done everyone!
Virtual visits!
Last Friday, 5th and 6th Class enjoyed a live streamed performance from The Ark theatre called What did I miss? It was great to experience a live theatre performance from the comfort of of our classroom!
The Junior and Middle classrooms had a Zoom meeting today with Albert Nolan from Heritage in Schools who told us all about bats! We learned lots of interesting information about bats, we showed him some pictures of bats we had drawn and Albert answered lots of questions for us too!
Fred the Entertainer
We had a lovely time this morning with Fred the Entertainer. Fred came to do a show for the whole school outside, and we were amazed by the illusions and tricks that he did! Fred also performed a few songs for us – he sang and played some instruments. It was all very entertaining – thank you Fred!
The life cycle of a butterfly
The Junior Room have been watching the process of caterpillars turning into butterflies over the last few weeks.
On Wednesday 19th May, we received our 5 caterpillars in their pot – this contained all the food they would need to form into their chrysalides.
On the 31st of May the caterpillars formed into chrysalides. We left them for 3 days to harden before transferring them into the butterfly net.
We waited patiently for them to emerge from their chrysalis.
On 10th June, when we arrived back from our walk and picnic, we noticed one had emerged – we were very excited! We put in some flowers, grass and nectar solution for the butterfly to feed on. They don’t move for a little while because they have to pump blood in their wings to strengthen them.
When we came in the next morning there were no more butterflies, but as the day went on, each one emerged from its chrysalis – by the end of the day, we had 5 butterflies!
The whole school went outside today to release the butterflies. Some of them flew high up into the sky, some them flew down on the grass and some of us even got to hold a butterfly for a few seconds!
It was a really interesting and fun experience to watch the caterpillars transform. We hope they start the butterfly life cycle all over again and lay some eggs!
LEGO Assembly with Simon and Jayne
Simon and Jayne from CEF came in to school today to do a special LEGO Assembly with each classroom. We listened to a Bible story, made a vehicle from LEGO and enjoyed a quiz before we launched our vehicles down the ramp to see how far they would travel! Thank you so much Simon and Jayne for coming in today and for all the treats you brought for us!
Forest Walk and Picnic!
Today we went for a walk in our class bubbles – the Middle and Senior Rooms did the full Killeshandra Loop Walk, while the Junior Room did part of the Loop. We had a great time and really enjoyed getting out and about!
Then we had a picnic lunch beside the town lake, with a few extra treats – chocolate from Miss McMeekin and some ice lollies!
Assembly with Canon Hazel and Rev. Richard
We were delighted to welcome Canon Hazel and Rev. Richard to school for a special assembly outside today.
We prayed and sang together, and Rev. Richard set some of 6th Class a challenge to see if they could tie a tie in preparation for secondary school in September! 6th Class were also presented with a book to help them as they move on to a new school.

CPR and Aid Training
A huge thank you to Rosie for coming in this afternoon to do CPR and First Aid training with 5th and 6th Class. It was a most informative session, and it was a wonderful opportunity for all the children to learn some life saving skills. Thank you Rosie.
Drama and Dance Workshop
A few weeks ago, the children in the Middle and Senior classrooms took part in a Creative Schools competition organised by Cavan Royal. Today, we were delighted to welcome Mary Farrelly who did a Dance and Drama workshop with each room to say ‘thank you’ and ‘well done’ to the children for entering the competition. We had great fun!
