Today was our last day of coaching with Sasha – we really enjoyed the 6 sessions and have learned new skills, played new games and had great fun! Thank you very much Sasha!
Aistear in the Junior Room
For the month of February, the Junior Room were very busy in the Post Office. We made cards, we built lots of post offices and we even filled out our passport applications!
In March, we visited the dentist. We made tooth fairy boxes with a note for the tooth fairy. We learned how to brush our teeth properly and we wrote about how to keep our teeth clean and healthy.
Confidence Day – 24th March
Today is National Confidence Day. Each classroom enjoyed watching some of the I believe in me show, and thought about how we can have confidence in ourselves.
We were delighted to receive a special message from An Taoiseach, Micheál Martin – instead of homework tonight, we have to do something kind. There were lots of happy faces going home with their homework passes today!
Food Dudes
We were very excited to start our Food Dudes programme today. Everyone will get a portion of fruit and a portion of vegetables each day to try. Today we had peppers and bananas – we look forward to seeing what we get tomorrow!
St Patrick’s Day Art Competition
We were invited to take part in the Killeshandra Community Council’s Art Competition. Well done to everyone for entering – the committee were impressed by the high standard of work entered. Special congratulations to Penelope, Pierre, Ruth and Lily who were winners in each category!

Tree planting
On Monday afternoon, we welcomed some members of the Killeshandra Tidy Towns committee to school to plant some trees for us as part of their biodiversity project. They explained the process for planting the bare root trees, and a few of us got to help – well done to the boys who put the tree in the hole and helped fill in the soil! We hope that in a few years, we will be able to enjoy the apples, pears and plums that will grow on our trees!
Non-uniform Day
We had a non-uniform day on Friday to raise money to support those affected by the crisis in Ukraine. Thank you so much to everyone for their generous donations, we raised €585 for the Irish Red Cross .
Pancakes!
Today is Pancake Tuesday and we enjoyed some yummy pancakes at break time – with a choice of toppings! They were delicious!
Plant a Tree
Our school is participating in an initiative being rolled out to create awareness about the dangers of pesticides to our local water sources. We had a visit from Sinéad Higgins from National Federation of Group Water Schemes and Emer Colwell, Irish Water last week.
They provided each family with a native Irish tree to plant in their home garden, together with an information pack containing a 4 page gardening booklet, certificate and information on how to plant the tree.Â

GAA Coaching
John Cosgrove from Killeshandra Leaguers came into school to give the Junior Classroom a taste of what it would be like to train with the club. The children had great fun, and maybe there are a few future Leaguers in our midst! Thank you John for coming in to coach us.
