Visit to Senior Citizens

The children in 5th and 6th Class were invited to the Resource Centre today to visit the Senior Citizens. They sang a few Christmas songs and spent some time chatting to the Senior Citizens. Rev Jean Mackarel was also there and we enjoyed playing some games. Thank you to everyone at the Resource Centre for inviting us, we had a wonderful time!

Christmas Crafts

The Killeshandra Christmas Market is taking place this Sunday and we have been very busy in school all week preparing for our stall. There has been willow, wool, buttons, socks and stars on the go!

We have some beautiful items ready for sale on Monday – we have made willow Christmas trees, snowmen and button tree decorations. We hope to see lots of you at the Christmas Market – thank you for supporting us!

Sports Coaching

It has been a busy week with 3 different sports coaches in school!

First thing on Monday morning, we had were joined by Ruairi from Elevate Kids. Ruairi kept us all moving as we played a range of different games – there was no time to feel the cold! Thank you Ruairi, we are looking forward to having you back for the next few Mondays before the Christmas holidays.

On Tuesday afternoon, we had our last Scottish Dancing lesson with Ruth Clarke from the Ulster Scots Agency. We have worked with Ruth for the last 10 weeks, and have learned so many dances in that time. Today, each class had a ceilidh when they got to choose their favourite dances to perfom again. Thank you Ruth – we really enjoyed learning a new skill!

Finally on Thursday, we had our first session of GAA coaching for this year with Karen from Cavan GAA. Thank you Karen, we are looking forward to next week!

Christmas Cards

We had a special delivery in school today – our Christmas cards arrived! We each designed our own cards a few weeks ago, and our orders arrived today.

Keep an eye out for some beautiful Christmas cards in the post over the next few weeks!

Willow Weaving Workshop

We had 2 days of weaving workshops this week as part of the Heritage in Schools and Creative Schools programmes. We were joined again by Helena Golden, the ‘Willow Woman’, and we had a fantastic experience! Each group had a few hours working with Helena, and we all produced some amazing willow Christmas trees, frames and baskets – we are so proud of our amazing creations! Thank you so much Helena, we really enjoyed working with you and learning a new skill.

Active School Flag

We recently appointed our Active School Committee for the year – well done to everyone, we are looking forward to all the activities you will help to organise over the year!

This week, we have started an Active School challenge – we are going to do an Active Break Every Day for 4 weeks. We have had great fun already!

We also started Playground Leaders – the children in the Senior Room are organising games to play on the yard on Mondays and Thursdays. We are really enjoying all the games, thank you to all our Playground Leaders!

Science Week

This week was Science Week and there were lots of interesting experiments carried out in school to mark the occasion – have a look at some of the things we got up to!

Team Home Christmas Shoebox Appeal

Thank you so much to everyone who made a shoebox for the Team Hope Christmas, or donated online. We collected 40 shoeboxes in school and we loaded them into the van to send off today. Every single shoebox will be a wonderful gift for a child this Christmas – thank you everyone!

We also presented our awards for the month of October today – well done to all our winners!

Golf Taster Session

We had a fantastic morning with Cian Mulligan from Golf Ireland today. Cain delivered a one-off session to the Middle and Senior Rooms to give us a taste of Golf. It was the first time some of us had ever played golf – we had a great time and everyone learned some new skills!

Heritage in Schools visit from Ross Cochrane

Our first day back after the mid-term break was a little bit different – we had a visit from Ross Cochrane who works with Heritage in Schools. Ross took each classroom out for a walk in nature – we looked at leaves, plants, trees, moss – anything we could find! Ross taught us to identify some of the trees and plants in our local area, shared lots of stories and information with us and played some games. Thank you, Ross, for a lovely day!
