We had a fantastic morning with Cian Mulligan from Golf Ireland today. Cain delivered a one-off session to the Middle and Senior Rooms to give us a taste of Golf. It was the first time some of us had ever played golf – we had a great time and everyone learned some new skills!
Heritage in Schools visit from Ross Cochrane
Our first day back after the mid-term break was a little bit different – we had a visit from Ross Cochrane who works with Heritage in Schools. Ross took each classroom out for a walk in nature – we looked at leaves, plants, trees, moss – anything we could find! Ross taught us to identify some of the trees and plants in our local area, shared lots of stories and information with us and played some games. Thank you, Ross, for a lovely day!
Dress Up and Games Day
We had all sorts of characters coming into school this morning! We started the day with a ‘Monster Mile’ around the yard – we put on some Hallowe’en music and showed off our costumes while we did our mile!
The Junior Room made some fantastic pumpkins today!

We also brought in some games to play this afternoon – we had great fun!
Have a lovely mid-term break!
Maths Week
This week is Maths Week and we have been doing a little bit more Maths than usual in school! We have been playing games and looking out for Maths in other subjects and in the world around us. To finish off the week, we got into our teams today and rotated around different stations – we did a Maths trail outside, played card games, investigated shape and made numbers. It was great fun!
Bagpipe lessons
Today was our first session with Ivor Laird who will be coming for 10 weeks to teach us how to play the bagpipes. Ivor showed us how to play the chanter and the goose, and we’re looking forward to hearing the real bagpipes next week! Ivor also taught us how to hold the chanter and play some notes – we were practising on our rulers today, but will get to try out the real thing over the next few weeks.
Ivor works with the Ulster Scots Agency, and we are delighted to be able to part of this programme – we are also really enjoying our Scottish Country dancing lessons with Ruth each Tueday. Thank you to the Ulster Scots Agency for the opportunity to learn lots of new skills!
September Awards
In Assembly today, we presented our awards for the month of September.
Our Excellent Effort award was presented to all the new pupils who joined our school this year, both in Junior Infants and in other classes. They have all made a huge effort as they have settled in to our school. Well done everryone!
Well done also to our Reader and Handwriter of the Month – keep up the great work!

National Tree Day

Today is National Tree Day and to mark the occasion, we went for a walk in the forest to see how many different trees we could find.
We collected leaves, acorns, berries, cones and lots of other interesting things on our walk. We also identified lots of different types of trees and spotted signs of Autumn all around us.
When we came back to school, we looked at some of the items we had collected. The Senior Room also used them for printing in Art this afternoon.
Happy Tree Day!
World School Milk Day
To celebrate World School Milk Day on 25th September, we had some visitors from Lakeland Dairies in school today. They brought milk for everyone, and were very generous giving all of us a free cap – thank you, Lakeland Dairies!
Keep an eye out in the local press over the next few days and you might see some familiar faces enjoying locally produced milk!
Fun in the sun!
We made the most of the beautiful sunshine today as we went for a walk to the GAA pitch and playground this afternooon – it’s not often it is dry enough for us to use the pitch! When we came back to school, we enjoyed some building and drawing in the yard.
Soccer and Dancing
This week, we have started 2 blocks of sports coaching!
The Middle and Senior rooms will have 6 weeks of soccer coaching with Brian Parker from Faith Mission – Brian will be teaching us lots of soccer skills, as well as a Bible lesson each week. We enjoyed the beautiful weather yesterday for our first session!
Today, all the classes had their first taste of Scottish country dancing with Ruth Clarke from the Ulster Scots Agency – Ruth will be joining us for 10 weeks, and we are really looking forward to learning lots with her. We had great fun today as she taught each group a dance.
