Monday
We started Active School Week with our first swimming lesson of this year. Everyone headed off on the bus to Cavan Leisure Centre on Monday morning and we had a great time.
After lunch, we got into our teams and went outside for some relay races. There was lots of running and fun involved!
Tuesday
It was raining on Tuesday morning, so we did some movement and dance breaks in the classrooms for our Wake up, Shake up!
After break, we had GAA coaching with Karen, then after lunch we went to the hall for a few games of dodgeball.
Wednesday
First thing on Wednesday morning, we went outside for our Wake up, Shake up! The Active School committee spun the wheel and led us in different exercises, then some of the girls in the Senior Room taught us a dance to Texas Hold ‘Em.
The weather was much better on Wednesday, so later on in the day we played some games in our teams – Rob the Nest, parachute games and Farmer’s Land.
In the afternoon, we ran our Mile then split into two groups for some very competitive hockey and basketball matches.
Thursday
We started Thursday morning with our Wake up, Shake up and dance.
During Active School Week, we are encouraged to try lots of different sports and activities. This year, we were delighted to welcome MÃcheál Watters from Cavan Kenpo Karate Academy to do a taster session of karate with us. It was brilliant! We had so much fun learning some karate moves – lots of us would love to learn more in the future! Thank you so much MÃcheál!
To finish off a lovely sunny afternoon, we had the choice of hockey or tennis – it was a great end to a very active day!
Friday
Friday was another beautiful day and we started the morning with our Wake up, Shake up. We have also been enjoying music on the yard at break and lunch time every day.
After break, we went down to walk and run laps of the pitch, followed by some time in the playground.
We finished Active School Week in style with some team challenges – hunt the pea, cross the river, gutterball, turn the sheet and some cup and straw games. We also stopped for an ice-lolly break! It was a great end to a fantastic week!
