We made the most of the sunshine in between the showers this afternoon to get outside for the team challenges we didn’t get to do during Active School Week.
We divided into 4 teams as we hunted the peas, built a cup structure, turned over the sheet without stepping on the grass, got the ball along the gutter without dropping it and finally got each team across the yard standing only on the mats. There was some great co-operation and communication as we worked together, as well as lots of fun!
Happy Europe Day!
We had a fantastic day today celebrating Europe Day! It was wonderful to welcome parents and friends back into school for the first time since before Covid.
The children put so much effort into preparing their tables and displayed all their work and items from their countries so beautifully. They also answered questions and chatted about their countries with all our visitors.
Each room had a selection of foods from European countries to taste – some of these were more popular than others!
As a treat for all our hard work, we enjoyed some delicious ice cream before we tidied up for home.
Thank you to all the parents for coming in to school today, and helping your children to prepare for Europe Day. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did!
As part of our project on the European Union, the children in the Middle and Senior classrooms had a Zoom call with Roberta Metsola, President of the European Parliament, this morning.
The Middle Room were selected to ask President Metsola a question which they had submitted prior to the event. It was such an honour to be one of only a few schools from across Europe to be selected to speak to the President.
We really enjoyed learning all about her life and work.
Today we met in Killeshandra Parish Church for our Diocesan Schools Service. Rather than meeting with all the schools in the Diocese as we have in previous years, this year all schools met in their own parish church.
Many thanks to Rev Richard Waller and Canon Hazel Hicks who led the service. We got to watch videos of reading and prayers from children in schools across the diocese, including our own Euan and Alesha – well done to both of you for reading so well.
We sang some songs and listened to a special Easter message from Rev Richard. We also watched a short message from the Bishop to finish our service. Thanks again to all involved.
What a week! We have had a fantastic week in school celebrating Active School Week 2022.
Each morning, we started with our Wake up, Shake up! using our spin the wheel to get us warmed up before the girls in 5th Class led us in our Jerusalema dance.
As well as our Wake up, Shake up in the morning, each class continued with their Mile a Day.
Every day, we had a different activity – on Tuesday, we enjoyed playing tennis.
On Wednesday, Mr Jones took each class for a GAA session – we had great fun practising our skills before we played a match.
There was lots of running and team work on Thursday when we took part in different relay races.
Unfortunately the weather wasn’t great on Friday – we made it outside for our GAA coaching with Amy, but we will save our challenges for next week!
We have been learning about the European Union for our project this year. Today we met with our partners to begin to prepare for Project Day next week, when we will celebrate Europe Week with a special Europe Day on 13th May.
We have been busy researching our countries and preparing displays. We are really looking forward to welcoming parents in to school next Friday to show off all our hard work!
Amy Wharton from Cavan GAA was with us today for some coaching – each room had the chance to learn and practise some ball handling skills and played a selection of games. Thank you Amy, we are looking forward to having you back next week!
Some of our 5th and 6th Class pupils are participating in Cumann na mBunscol along with pupils from Scoil BhrÃde. Many thanks to Siobhan who purchased jerseys for the team. The children have been enjoying their training sessions and are looking forward to their upcoming matches. Best of luck to all involved!
This week each classroom has been busy making some lovely Easter art.
Well done to the winners of our Funky Bunny competition – our judge Mrs Bowles had a very difficult job deciding on the winners in each class!
We also enjoyed an Easter Hunt outside today.
