We have been enjoying another week of Food Dudes in school this week. Everyone received a portion of fruit and a portion of vegetables each day – apples, carrots, bananas, peppers, blueberries, cucumber and tomatoes, helping us to meet out target of 5-7 portions per day.
We’ve also been enjoying watching our Food Dudes videos each day, helping us to learn about why it is so important to eat a variety of food and vegetables to keep us strong and healthy.
This morning we made the most of the beautiful weather to go for a walk in the forest. We were identifying different types of trees and looking for signs of Autumn – we collected lots of leaves including sycamore, oak, beech, hazel and ash, as well as some fruits like acorns, beech nuts and hazel nuts.
The Junior and Middle Rooms have been enjoying the first few weeks of their Music Generation programme with Aisling O’Reilly. Each week, we meet Aisling in the hall for half an hour for lots of singing, rhythm activities and fun!
We have had a great first few days back at school! It has been lovely to get back to normal after the restrictions of the last few years. A very special welcome to our new Junior Infants and pupils who joined us this year. We are really looking forward to a busy year filled with learning and fun!
Today we said farewell to our 6th Class pupils with a special assembly for their parents and the whole school. We were joined by Rev. Richard and Archdeacon Hazel as we sang some favourite songs chosen by 6th Class. Rev. Richard got 6th Class up to think about how they are feeling leaving Killeshandra N.S. and moving on to new schools, and he reminded them that God is with them as they start this new chapter in their lives.
6th Class also told us about some of their favourite memories from their time in Killeshandra N.S. and shared a poem with us that they had written to say farewell.
Each member of 6th Class was presented with a t-shirt signed by everyone in the school, a certificate, a framed picture of their class and a Bible as a gift and momento of their time in the school.
To finish off our special assembly, we enjoyed a beautiful cake sent in by one of the 6th Class parents and some delicious ice cream with lots of toppings. As we ate, we watched a slide show of photos of 6th Class through their years in the school – there was lots of laughter and a few tears as we looked back on their time in Killeshandra N.S.
We wish each and every one of our 6th Class pupils all the very best as they move on to new schools in September, and thank them for all they have contributed to life in the school over the last 8 years. Have a great summer everyone!
We had a wonderful day today as we celebrated Sports Day – the weather was perfect for a full day of all kinds of sporting activities!
We began this morning with a few warm ups to get us ready for the rest of the day.
Then it was time for some races – each class had a running race, a sack race, an egg and spoon race and a 3-legged race!
After break, it was time for tug-of-war. The teachers put up a good fight against the pupils!
Next we had a photo orienteering challenge – we were given photos of objects around the school grounds and had to work together to find these and mark their locations on a map.
Before lunch, we tried a new sport – welly throwing! Everyone got one chance to see how far they could throw the welly and we marked each distance on the yard. Well done to our three champion welly throwers!
After lunch, we divided into teams for some challenges. First we had a water relay – each team had to get as much water as they could into the tub across the yard, but our cups had a hole in the bottom!
We also had to transfer as many peas as we could from one box to another using only a straw.
We tested our team work and co-operation skills with the hula hoops.
Before the Infants went home, we were all presented with a medal to say a big ‘Well done!’ for taking part in Sports Day!
To finish off a wonderful day, each team played a soccer, Gaelic and basketball match.
What a great Sports Day – well done everyone!
Congratulations to two of our senior pupils who won an U13 final at Breffni Park last week with their club Cornafean. They brought their cup in to school today – a huge well done to the boys and their team!
Congratulations to one of our pupils who entered the singing category in the local heats of the Community Games. She came first in the U12 Solo Singing and will be representing Cavan in the all-Ireland competition during the summer. A huge well done, and good luck!
Over the last few weeks, the Senior Room have been having painting lessons with Mrs Bowles. They learned many different techniques and produced lots of beautiful pieces. On the last week, each child got a proper painting board for their final creation.
