Skip Around Europe Challenge

We started a new Active School Flag challenge this week – we have to see how many cities around Europe we can skip to over 4 weeks. We got off to a flying start – with beautiful weather and lovely new skipping ropes, we are really enjoying the challenge and our skipping has improved so much already!

JEP Showcase Event

5th and 6th Class have been working very hard on their Junior Entrepreneur Programme project over the last number of weeks. They have been gathering orders, printing stickers and getting their products out to customers.

Last Friday, they hosted a Showcase Event in school. 5th and 6th Class showed all the different steps involved in bringing their holders to the market – design, research, testing, pricing, marketing, packaging… – they have learned so much as part of the process! They were also busy taking orders on the day. Thank you to everyone who came to support this event – we hope you find your holder very useful!

Congratulations!

We have had a few winners in school recently – a big ‘well done’ to our Reader, Handwriter and Excellent Effort recipients for January/February 2025, to those who won prizes in the Killeshandra St Patrick’s Day Art Comeptition, and to the finders of the Tradfest fish!

Book Fair

We have had the Scholastic Book Fair in school this week. There were lots of lovely books to choose from – many of us bought books to bring home, and we purchased some lovely books to add to our school library too.

We had a special Book Fair competition – everyone had to create a character that they would like to read about. There were some fantastic characters – Mrs Comiskey had a very difficult job judging the entries! Well done to our winners from each class, who got to choose a book from the Book Fair as their prize.

World Book Day

Happy World Book Day!

To mark the occasion, all the children brought a favourite book into school today. They had a chance to tell their classmates all about their book, as well as look at books that others brought in. We also spent some time reading books as Gaeilge, as well as some other fun book-related activities!

Everyone recieved a Book Token today – we hope you enjoy choosing your free World Book Day book!

Basketball

Today was our first session of basketball coaching with Graham Tolan from Virginia Eagles basketball club. We practised some skills and played lots of different games. Thank you very much Graham, we are really looking forward to the next 5 weeks!

Pancakes!

We had a very special treat today for Pancake Tuesday – Mrs Comiskey and Mrs Sweeney made us all delicious traditional Irish pancakes! We are focusing on the genre of procedure writing this term, and Mrs Comiskey explained and demonstrated the requirements and steps to make pancakes, with a little help from us! Then came the best part – choosing our toppings and enjoying the delicious pancakes. Thank you very much Mrs Comiskey and Mrs Sweeney!

French

As part of the new Primary Curriculum, a modern foreign language is being introduced in the upper end of the school. This year,w e are taking part in the ‘Say Yes to Languages’ programme. We have organised a French tutor, Caroline, to teach the children in the Middle and Senior Classrooms some French. We really enjoyed our first session, and look forward the the next 9 weeks. Merci Caroline!

New equipment

There have been a few new things appearing around the school over the last few weeks! The children suggested some new pieces of equipment that they would like in the yard, and have been enjoying playing with them outside.

We also had a delivery of some fantastic new chairs for our classrooms – they are very comfortable!
