5th and 6th Class were invited to take part in a bike workshop as part of National Bike Week. Everyone brought in their bikes and headed down to the football pitch where Donal from Cavan Sports Partnership led lots of different bike activities. Thank you Donal and Cavan Sports Partnership – we really enjoyed the workshop!
Active School Week
This week is Active School Week – we have had beautiful weather every day, and we made the most of it!
Every morning, we started the day with Wake up, Shake up! to set us up for the day. We spun our activity wheel, each classroom lead us in a dance and we finished off out Skip around Europe challenge.
During the week, we also played lots of playground games together.
We enjoyed learning some Australian Rules football with Mr Uphill!
We also practised our badminton and tennis skills.
On Thursday, we went down to the football pitch for some laps, then some of us played football and rounders while others enjoyed a few minute’s rest before we went to the playground!
On Friday afternoon, some of the boys set up an osctacle course relay for us, then we enjoyed some free play in the sunshine.
We had a great week!
Heritage Day at St. Mogue’s N.S.
Yesterday we met with St Mogue’s N.S. at their school for a Heritage Day as part of our PeacePlus programme. Mr Conefrey had a fantastic day planned for everyone with lots of different workshops for us to take part in, focusing on Heritage.
Everyone had the opportunity to search for artefacts in The Big Dig, learn about the Vikings in Ireland, help with Rope Making, take part in some Irish Mythology story telling and practice some Gaelic Football – thank you to Mr Conefrey and all those who led the workshops. We really enjoyed the day, meeting our friends from St Mogue’s and learning lots about our heritage!
Some special visitors!
We had some very special (and famous!) visitors in school today – Mrs McGuigan brought in quadruplet kid goats that were born on her farm a few weeks ago. The goats have been in the Anglo Celt and on Northern Sound, so we were honoured to have them visit us!
Mrs McGuigan told us that it is very rare for goats to have 4 kids at once. She also asked for our help to name the 3 boys and 1 girl. Thank you very much Mrs McGuigan for bringing the kids in to see us – we loved them!
A Busy Day at Florence Court!
As part of our ASPIRE PeacePlus programme, the Junior Room met the children in Junior Infants, Senior Infants and 1st Class from St Mogue’s N.S. at Florence Court in Co. Fermanagh today. We enjoyed a few minutes in the playground as we waited for the St Mogue’s bus to arrive.
The programme we were taking part in today was called A Busy Day at Florence Court, and it certainly lived up to its name! We had to help the servants to get ready for the christening of Lady Ann in 1875, and there was lots to be done! After a quick snack, we got dressed up and ready for work.
Then we headed into the big house where we had dusting, polishing, washing, ironing, cooking and lots of other jobs to do. Everyone worked very hard, and the servants were very impressed with us – they offered everyone a job to come back and help again!
After all our hard work, we enjoyed playing a few games in the courtyard.
Then it was time to have our fingernails inspected before we headed in to the classroom! Mrs McConkey, the schoolmistress, was very strict, but everyone was well behaved and did their very best writing!
We all had a great day at Florence Court, and are looking forward to meeting our friends from St Mogue’s N.S. again next week!
FAI Soccer Blitz
The Senior Room headed off to Bailieborough yesterday to take part in the FAI Schools Primary 5s soccer blitz. This was the first time we had taken part in this competition, and our team did us proud! They grew in confidence as the day went on, and they all thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
Everyone enjoyed a stop in McDonalds on the way home, where we were able to use some of our profits from the Junior Entrepreneur Programme.

Special thanks to Paul Comiskey Blasting and Spraying for sponsoring our jerserys – we are thrilled with how they turned out, and are looking forward to having lots of opportunities to wear them in the future. Thank you Paul!

Welcome back to Term 3!
It has been a busy couple of days as we started back into our final term of the school year!
Yesterday was our first swimming lesson, and we are looking forward to our swimming lessons on Mondays for the rest of the term.
We also have a Food Dudes Week in school this week – everyone gets a portion of fruit and a portion of vegetables each day. We have also been sent some free fruit from The Lunch Bag as a healthy snack to enjoy along with our dinners – thank you to The Lunch Bag!
Well done to the winners in the Arva / Killeshandra / Cornafean Community Games art competitions, pictured here with their medals. We wish them all the best as they move on to the Cavan County Finals in a few weeks time.

6th Class also took delivery of their beautiful Class of 2025 jerseys yesterday – they look very smart!

Happy Easter!
Our Parents’ Association arranged for us to have a Mad Hatters Day today to mark the end of term – for homework this week, everyone made a hat to wear to school today. There were some amazing creations! Well done everyone, we really enjoyed our hat parade at assembly this morning!
Our new Student Council arranged a very special treat for us today – they organised an Easter Egg hunt for the whole school. Everyone had to find their own egg, hidden somewhere around the school grounds. Thank you very much, Ms Gregg and the Student Council for organising this for us!
We also had an Easter orienteering activity in the beautiful sunshine to finish off a very busy term.
Happy Easter everyone!
Marble Arch Caves and Killykeegan Nature Reserve
The Middle and Senior Rooms headed off this morning to Co. Fermanagh for a joint trip with St Mogue’s N.S. as part of our ASPIRE PeacePlus programme. The weather was beautiful as we explored the Killykeegan Nature Reserve and learned about the history and geography of the area. We also had a tour of the Marble Arch Caves – it was fascinating to see all the different features of the caves.
We really enjoyed meeting with the pupils from St Mogue’s and had a wonderful day together.
Project Day
During the month of March, all three classrooms were working on a SESE project, learning about the Counties of Ireland. Today was Project Day when we celebrated all our work.
Everyone had the chance to come to school dressed in a county jersey or in county colours. We completed an orienteering challenge with numberplates, then had a Kahoot! quiz based on the counties. After lunch, we had the chance to look at each other’s projects, before 1st-6th Class went on a walk through Killeshandra to see how many different county numberplates we could spot. It was a great day!
