‘Run around Ireland’ challenge

We have just completed Week 1 of our ‘Run around Ireland’ challenge. Every day we run or walk as many laps as we can to reach some famous landmarks in Ireland.

This week we have run to places all over Ireland – from Donegal to Wicklow, Kerry and Down!

Where will we get to next week?

Happy Mid-term Break!

We had a busy day at Killeshanda N.S before we finished for a well-earned Mid-term Break – we enjoyed dressing up, decorating biscuits and a few other treats!

The Senior Room also completed their STEM Challenge – well done to everyone who managed to prevent their egg from breaking!

We wish everyone a happy and safe Mid-term Break, and look forward to seeing everyone back in school on Monday 2nd November.

Farewell 6th Class!

It was great to have a chance to catch up with our past 6th Class pupils when they came in after school on Friday 4th September. Each of them were presented with a number of gifts and momentos of their time in Killeshandra N.S. The Leila Beattie Award was also presented that afternoon.

It was great to hear about how each of them are getting on in their secondary schools and we wish them continued success in the months and years ahead. Well done to you all!

Letter from Minister for Education

Please find below the link to a letter from Norma Foley TD, Minister for Education, for parents about the re-opening of schools.

Letter from Minister for Education

As you are aware, things will be a little different in school in September, and plans are underway for this. We will be in touch with information relating to the re-opening of Killeshandra N.S. on 1st September in due course.

Farewell, 6th Class!

Well done to all parents and pupils for all the hard work you have been doing at home over the past number of months. We know it has not always been easy, but we hope you can look back with happy memories on the time you spent together over this unprecedented period.

Today, especially, we think of our 6th Class – Alisha, Rosie, David, Éabha, Richard, Grant, Abbie, James, Kate, Amy, Byron, Justin, Liam and Caitlin on what would have been your last day in Killeshandra N.S.

Unfortunately we are not able to say goodbye to you in person today, but we would like to invite you all back in to school on Friday 4th September at 2 p.m. All the other children in the school would love to say goodbye and, of course, sign your red school t-shirt as is tradition in Killeshandra N.S. – remember to bring your t-shirt with you! This will give us all the opportunity to say farewell and wish you all the best in the next step of your education.

We hope we will be able to open for the new school year on Tuesday 1st September 2020 at 9.20 a.m. as usual. We will be in touch prior to this date with more information, but suggest that over the summer you purchase an individual hand sanitizer for each of the children to bring with them to school when we return.

We would like to thank you most sincerely for your support and dedication over the past number of months. We wish you all a very happy summer holidays and hope you all enjoy a well-deserved break.

Mrs Richardson, Ms Graham, Mrs McGuigan and Ms Gregg

We have missed having assemblies in school with Simon and Jayne over the last few months, but they have been in touch to invite everyone to an online kids club produced by CEF. It is called ‘Truth Catchers Online 5-Day Club’ and is for all national school aged children.  The club is premiering on the ‘CEF of Ireland’ Youtube channel from Monday 15th to Friday 19th June.  It will run from 3pm and last for about half an hour each day. Join in if you can!

Children in 6th Class may like to complete the ‘My Progression to Secondary School’ booklet on the process of transferring from primary to secondary school. Included are activities that will allow the children to reflect on their time in primary school and explore aspects of their forthcoming progression to second level. Click here to download the booklet.

You may also be interested in using this mental well-being journal with your children. It is designed to aid parents in helping their children enhance their mental well-being during these challenging times. It’s probably most suitable for children aged 8 to 12 years old, but could be adapted for younger or older children. Click here to download the booklet.

We would love to see how you get on at your Virtual Sports Day next week – don’t forget to send us some photos or short videos of what you get up to! You can download the information sheet included in your pack about how to organise Sports Day at home here.

Information from Cavan Library

While libraries across the county are still closed, Cavan Library Service are continuing to provide educational and fun events for children and have asked us to share the following information.

Cruinniú na nÓg (13th June) is the national day celebrating creativity in young children and Cavan Library Service has 3 free online events planned for the day.

Pre-registration is essential as parents will have to receive the Zoom login details prior to the events. More details are on their website at http://www.cavanlibrary.ie/events.htm

Here are a few more photos of what you have been getting up to – some of you have been very busy during the lovely weather!

Junior Entrepreneur Programme

The children in 5th and 6th Class were completing the Junior Entrepreneur Programme before we had to close in March. They came up with a range of possible projects including:

Icing on the Cake

Boscaí Bláthanna

Wooly Squares

ABC Carpentry

Picture Perfect

Each group presented their project to a group of Dragons, who chose the project ‘Picture Perfect’ for the whole class to work on. The children had been busy researching and sourcing materials, gathering orders and producing their frames.

Unfortunately, they were not able to complete all the orders they had received before the school closed unexpectedly, but did manage to make lots of beautiful frames – have a look at some of their work. Well done everyone!
