We have been doing lots of different activities in school this week to celebrate Maths Week – we went for walks to spot Maths in the environment around Killeshandra, investigated Maths around the school, made patterns, drew graphs, made shape pictures and played lots of games. We learned so much and had great fun!
Autumn in the Junior Room
The Junior Room were learning about Autumn for the month of October.
We went for a walk looking for signs of autumn and did some rubbings of the leaves and the textures we saw.
In Aistear, we made homes for the animals in the sand pit using the sand and autumn items such as conkers, leaves and twigs. We sewed some monsters and we made a paper plate haunted house with characters. We have been a busy class!
Hallowe’en Story Time!
Today the Junior Room took park in a Hallowe’en Story Time on Zoom facilitated by Cavan Library.
We really enjoyed it and loved all the stories!
Harvest Assembly
We were delighted that Rev. Richard Waller was able to join us for an outdoor Harvest Assembly. We sang the Harvest song Someone’s brought a loaf of bread and listened to Rev. Richard read a Bible story. Some of the Senior Room helped Rev. Richard with an illustration – when we hold on to our worries they can get heavy and weigh us down, just like a bag of books. However, when we pray and hand our worries over to God, He hears our prayers and has promised to look after each one of us so we do not need to worry.

Webinar with David Walliams
The children in the Middle and Senior Rooms viewed a live webinar this morning organised by ESCI entitled “Inspiring Ireland, Inspiring Students – An Interview With Author, David Walliams”. It was really interesting to listen to David Walliams talking about his childhood, how he started writing stories and where he gets some of his ideas from.
We also enjoyed listening to David reading from two of his books – The World’s Worst Children and Gangsta Granny.
Welcome back!
We are delighted to welcome our new Junior Infants to Killeshandra N.S. – they have had a great few days settling into our school and having lots of fun!
All the other classes are enjoying catching up with friends and exploring some of the new equipment we have in school, both in the classroom and on the yard. We are really looking forward to a great year of learning together!
Farewell 6th Class!
We had a special assembly today to say goodbye to 6th Class – Faye, Holly, Darragh, Aisha, Craig, Ellen, Alex and Laura. Each student was presented with a framed photograph of their classmates, a t-shirt signed by everyone in the school, a certificate and a Bible as a gift and momento of their time in the school. We also sang some favourite hymns and songs choosen by 6th Class and heard some of their memories from their time in the school.
The Leila Beattie Award was also presented to Alex in recognition of all she has achieved and contributed to life in Killeshandra National School over the past 8 years.
We wish each one of our 6th Class students all the very best as they move to new schools in September, and thank them for all they have contributed to the school during their time with us – look at how much they have changed over the years!
There was great excitement when an ice-cream van arrived in the school yard to end our final day in school this year. Have a great summer everyone!
Performance Day
Well done to 5th and 6th Classes who took part in Performance Day today – it was great to learn more about your interests and skills!
Sports Week
This week was Sports Week – we were busy taking part in races, challenges and games every day. Each classroom bubble took part in lots of different races – running, sack, potato and spoon, 3-legged, beanbag and wheelbarrow races to name a few! We also enjoyed orienteering activities, water relays, team challenges, tug-of-war and games each day. The weather was great, we had a lot of fun and we worked hard to earn our Sports Day medals – well done everyone!
Virtual visits!
Last Friday, 5th and 6th Class enjoyed a live streamed performance from The Ark theatre called What did I miss? It was great to experience a live theatre performance from the comfort of of our classroom!
The Junior and Middle classrooms had a Zoom meeting today with Albert Nolan from Heritage in Schools who told us all about bats! We learned lots of interesting information about bats, we showed him some pictures of bats we had drawn and Albert answered lots of questions for us too!
