Seachtain na Gaeilge

We have been busy over the last couple of weeks celebrating Seachtain na Gaeilge. Last Thursday, we went for a walk through Killeshandra town to see how many county flags we could spot – we managed to identify 29 different flags!

We participated in the Killeshandra St Patrick’s Day art competition – well done our 2 winners!

For our music on the yard this week, we played some Irish tunes and had great fun practising our jigs and reels as well as making up some dances!

We also went to the hall for a céilí – bhíomar ag canadh agus ag damhsa le chéile. The whole school has been learning Amhrán na gCupán and we performed it together. We also had some performances from a number of children – well done everyone! Bhí an-spraoi ag gach duine!

Book Fair Winners

We ran a bookmark competition this week as part of our Book Fair. Well done to everyone for creating beautiful bookmarks based on a book. Mrs Bowles had a very difficult decision judging them! Congratulations to our winners – they chose their prize from the Book Fair.

Thank you very much to everyone who supported our Book Fair this week. Scholastic kindly donate some money to our school based on our takings – we have used this money to select lots of lovely new books for our school library.

Book Fair

There was great excitement in school today with the return of the Book Fair – we have missed it for the last few years. Each classroom has a book case with a super selection of books and there is also a stationery shop. Books and stationery are on sale all week, and parents are welcome to come in on Wednesday at 1.50pm (Infant parents) or 2.50pm to buy books.

Gymnastics Coaching

Today was our first Gymnastics session with Sharon – have a look at some of the rolls, balances and jumps we were practising today. We are looking forward to learning many more skills over the next few weeks.

World Book Day

We celebrated World Book Day in school today. Everyone brought in a favourite book and a prop from their book – we had all sorts of interesting objects to look at!

The children in the Junior Room made themselves comfortable and curled up to read for a while this morning.

The children in the Middle and Senior Rooms talked about their books and props.

We all had the chance to share our books with each other this afternoon – we really enjoyed looking at the books, and lots of us found new books we might like to read!

Fit for February

Today was the last day of our Fit for February challenge. We had already passed our target of 600 laps for the month, so today we were running to see how many laps we could get in total over 4 weeks. We have really enjoyed going down to the pitch each week and have been very fortunate with lovely weather each time.

Today we managed to complete 196 laps. When we came back to school, we added this on to our laps from previous weeks which gave us a grand total of 883 laps for the month – well done everyone!

On the way back from the pitch today, we stopped in the park for a few minutes – we have been very active this month!

Soccer Blitz

The Active School Committee organised a soccer blitz at break and lunch times this week. They made 4 teams from everyone interested and arranged for each team to play 6 matches over the week and we had the final matches today. Well done to everyone for taking part – there were some very competitive matches! The final result was a draw for third place between The Running Rovers and KFC, The Scott Challengers finished in second place and our winners were Ohio. Congratulations!

Junior Entrepreneur Project

The  5th & 6th class pupils are taking part in the Junior Entrepreneur Programme and have been working extremely hard on all elements of this programme. 

They have set up a company called, ‘Wooden Wonders’ and have designed a number of different wooden slices (see the poster below showing a selection of what they have created).

They have made order slips for anyone who is interested in ordering one of more of their wooden slices and there are some special deals available also. 

5th & 6th class will be having a ‘Showcase Event’ in their classroom on Friday, 24th March from 1.50 – 2.50 p.m. where those that come along  will see a selection of the wooden slices they have made. 

The pupils hope that customers will be extremely pleased with their ‘Wooden Wonder’ products.
