We were delighted to have Rev. Sam in school this morning for his first assembly with us. He told us the story of the wise and foolish builders and we sang a lovely song – we even had a demonstration of what happens if you don’t build your house on a firm foundation! Rev. Sam also answered a few of our questions, telling us a little about himself.
We welcome Rev. Sam and his family to Killeshandra, and we are looking forward to lots more great assemblies with him!
It has been wonderful to welcome everyone back to school this week. We give a very special welcome to our new Junior Infants and one other pupil who has joined our school. We have had a great few days and are all looking forward to another fantastic year!
The Junior Room have had another very busy year in Aistear – there was lots of fun and learning through play in a lot of different topics. Have a look at some of what we got up to!
Today was a special day as we said goodbye to our 6th Class of 2023.
This morning we welcomed the parents of 6th Class and Rev. Naomi for a special assembly. 6th Class had chosen some of their favourite songs for us to sing and some of 6th Class led us in the actions. They also said ‘GOODBYE EVERYONE AT K.N.S.’ as they shared some memories from their time in the school through a poem. Rev. Naomi showed us a pair of trainers, a map, a bottle of water and a walking pole as she encouraged 6th Class to walk with Jesus as they set out on the next step in their journey through life.
6th Class were presented with some gifts as a reminder of their time in Killeshandra N.S. – a framed photo of their class, a t-shirt signed by everyone in the school, a Bible and a certificate.
We also presented Rev. Naomi with a small gift to say ‘thank you’ for coming into school and joining us for assemblies this year. Thank you Rev. Naomi!
Then is was time for some ice-cream with all the toppings as we watched a slideshow of some photos of 6th Class throughout their years in the school. There were lots of very happy memories!
Thank you to one of our 6th Class parents who baked some delicious cupcakes for our Class of 2023.
We gave 6th Class 3 cheers as they left the classroom, then it was time for a last few photos as we said a final ‘Goodbye’.
6th Class – we wish each and every one of you all the very best as you move on to the next stage of your education. Thank you for everything you have contributed to life in Killeshandra N.S. over the years, and we hope you look back on your time here with happy memories. Have a wonderful summer everyone!
We are saying ‘Farewell’ to our secretary Mrs Bowles at the end of this school year. Mrs Bowles has worked in Killeshandra N.S. for 16 years, and has contributed so much to the life of the school over those years. Her talent for art and painting will be particularly missed by the Senior Room!
At a special assembly this morning, some of the seniors read a poem they had written for Mrs Bowles, then we sang ‘One more step along the world I go’ as we wished her all the best for her retirement. We presented Mrs Bowles with a card and some gifts to say ‘Thank you’ for all her work over the years, as well as a lovely cake which she kindly shared with us! Wishing you a long, happy and healthy retirement, Mrs Bowles!
What a fantastic day we had today for our Sports’ Day! After the heavy downpours over the last few days, the sun was shining all day for us today.
We started with a few warm-ups this morning.
Then it was time for our races – we had a running race, a potato and spoon race, a sack race and a 3-legged race in our classes.
After break, we headed down to the GAA grounds. Some of us chose to go to the park where we had great fun (and a little bit of shade!), while others played a game of soccer on the pitch – we have never played soccer on such a huge pitch before!
After lunch, it was time for tug of war! There were a lot of very close contests between lots of different groups, but the teachers were undefeated against both the 6th Class girls and boys!
We had a quick break thanks to the Senior Room who spent some of their JEP money on an ice-lolly for everyone – thank you very much 5th and 6th Class, it was really appreciated today!
We just had time for throw-the-welly before the Infants went home. It is not as easy as it looks, but there were some great throws!
Next it was time for an obstacle course – the trickiest bit was remembering to put everything back in the correct place for the next person in our team!
Finally, we had a huge orienteering challenge – we had to collect different pieces of equipment from around the yard, then make something from everything we had collected.
At the end of a super day, we were all presented with a medal – a huge well done to everyone for all their hard work and positive attitudes. It was wonderful to see teams working together and everyone encouraging and cheering each other on. Well done everyone!
5th and 6th Class had great reason to celebrate this week. They received notification that Wooden Wonders was among the top 30 projects this year. This was an amazing achievement considering there were over 200 projects submitted to the JEP office.
JEP judges said, “You can all be very proud of your achievements – your project stood out as an excellent example of creativity, hard work and entrepreneurial spirit.“
The sent a plaque and certificate to the school to mark this great achievement.
The school also got a mention on Northern Sound Radio congratulating them on their great achievements in the JEP project.
The video that the class produced was broadcast as part of the JEP online celebrations for schools all across the country to see – we were sent a money gift which they spent in the shop last week.
Huge congratulations 5th and 6th Class, you have have done us proud!
The Senior Room have been sharing performances with their class over the past few days. We all got a chance to learn so much about the amazing hobbies, skills and talents of our class mates.
Well done for everyone for performing so well!
We were delighted to welcome Mrs Beattie back into school today to present the Leila Beattie Award to one of our Sixth Class pupils. As always, it was a very difficult decision! Well done to all our Sixth Class pupils, and thank you all for everything you have contributed to life in our school over the last 8 years. Mrs Beattie very kindly had a treat for everyone before she left. Thank you Mrs Beattie!
Today we had a visit from Garda Herron from Ballyconnell Garda Station. He came to speak to us about our behaviour online. He gave us some great advice about how to keep ourselves safe, and also reminded us to always ‘Be Kind Online’ and think carefully about the things we say and do online.
